What you need to tell the doctor:

  • The doctor will need to know of any allergies the patient has.
  • If in Antigua or Barbuda it is beneficial to show the patient’s Medical Benefit Card (Medical Benefits Scheme n.d.), as the medication needed may be cost free.
  • The medication your care receiver has been previously prescribed, if the now patient has a past medication history

Caretaker, what you need to know from the doctor:

  • The most affordable way to get the medication
    • In Antigua and Barbuda the Medical Benefits Scheme supply medications for certified lunacy (Mental Illness) (Medical Benefits Scheme n.d.)
  • The medication dosage required
    • The time of day to take it
    • If food is required to ingest directly before taking it, or not
    • The side effects from the medication to expect
    • New sleep habits needed for a successful recovery
    • New eating habits to be aware of
    • How much supervision the receiver will now need determined by the doctor at this stage of recovery
