I Want to Contribute

Life shouldn't always be this hard.  If I can help, I will.

As I see the young man standing at the KFC waiting for persons to beg from, I reflect.  I want to contribute.

I want to contribute to society.  I want to help, I want to make my mark.  Don't get me wrong, I understand that people that beg on the street don't beg because they want to or that it's fun.  They do so because they feel they have no alternative.  Maybe life with all its obstacles has beat them down so low that they feel that is all that they can do.  But some people feel that once one has a mental illness begging is all those persons can, or all they should do.  I know this for a fact because I have heard people say so.
Just because there is a crack in this wall doesn't mean that it can't be effective.  We are not perfect, but if only we are willing . . .

Well I'm here to tell you that you can do anything, even with a mental illness.  Persons with mental illnesses may need to focus their strengths, identify their weaknesses and compensate, but you can do almost anything and what you may not be able to do now, you will be able to do in the future, such as being able to serve in the military.  Your world is limitless, it is only for you to believe and strive to achieve.

My first psychiatrist use to tell me of this limitless life.  He would tell me of doctors and lawyers with these types of issues and how they still lived successful lives.  He encouraged me to do something and do it great!  And when I do, to do it to help other persons with these types of issues who may not be at my point.  So now I'm doing what I can to help.  I'm working towards getting my bachelor's degree, so that I am qualified to help.  I'm doing this blog so that I can be available to help.  There's a lot of work to be done!  I'm willing to help.  I'm strong enough, I'm sane enough, and I want to contribute.

Please allow me to help.  But in my own way.  A way that can be mutually beneficial.
